Snap Zap ("we", "our", or "us") provides an iPhone app that helps you review photos and videos taken on this day over the years. This Privacy Policy explains what information the app accesses, what we collect, and how we use it.

Summary
- Your photos and videos stay on your device. Snap Zap does not upload them to any server.
- Snap Zap requests access to your photo library so it can show you items from the current calendar day across prior years.
- Snap Zap uses third-party analytics to understand app usage and improve the product.
- Snap Zap stores settings and session state locally on your device and syncs your daily streak and total space saved through your private iCloud account.
- For the referral program, our server keeps a record of your invite code, invites, and rewards, linked to an anonymous identifier from Apple. It does not collect your name, email address, or contacts.
Information Snap Zap Accesses On Your Device
Photo Library
If you grant photo library permission, Snap Zap accesses your photo and video library to:
- Find photos and videos taken on the current month and day in past years.
- Let you review items and decide whether to keep or delete them.
- Let you favorite, organize, and share items using iOS system features.
Your photos and videos do not leave your device through normal app use. We do not upload your photo library to any server.
Notifications
If you enable notifications, Snap Zap schedules local notifications on your device to remind you to review your photos. These are delivered by Apple's notification system and do not transmit data to us.
iCloud Sync
If you are signed in to iCloud, Snap Zap automatically stores your daily streak and total space saved in your private iCloud account so those stats remain available across installs and devices signed in to the same Apple Account. Snap Zap does not sync your photos or videos through this feature.
iCloud is operated by Apple. Apple's handling of data in iCloud is governed by its Privacy Policy.
Information Collected
Analytics
Snap Zap collects limited product analytics through third-party services such as PostHog. Analytics may include:
- App launches and session duration
- Onboarding progress
- Permission grant or denial events
- Reminder preference changes
- Photo review actions (keep, delete, share, favorite)
- Referral program actions, such as sharing an invite or redeeming a reward
These analytics are used to understand feature usage, diagnose issues, and improve the app. Analytics do not include the contents of your photos or videos.
Referral Program
Where the referral program is available, Snap Zap checks your referral status with our referral server when the app opens, so it can show your invite code and tell you when a friend joins. Snap Zap sends the following to that server:
- An anonymous app transaction identifier that Apple provides for your Apple Account and Snap Zap. It identifies you to the referral program without an account, and it does not reveal your name or email address.
- Your invite code, and which invite you used, when, and how (link or typed code)
- Whether the people you invited started a free trial or subscription, and whether a purchase was refunded. This comes from Apple's App Store notifications and from purchases the app reports to our server.
- The rewards you earn and the Apple offer codes we give you for them
The referral server does not receive your name, email address, contacts, payment details, or photos. The person who invited you can see how many friends have joined, but not who they are.
How We Use Information
We use information accessed or collected through Snap Zap to:
- Provide the app's core functionality
- Remember your settings and session state
- Improve app quality and usability
- Monitor app performance and troubleshoot problems
- Run the referral program: count invites, give rewards, and prevent abuse
Sharing
We do not sell your personal information.
We share limited usage data with service providers that help us operate the app, such as analytics providers and our hosting provider. These providers process data on our behalf under their own privacy and security terms.
Data Retention
- Photo library content remains in your photo library under your control.
- Local app settings and session state remain on your device until you reset or delete the app.
- Your daily streak and total space saved remain in your private iCloud account according to your iCloud settings. Deleting Snap Zap removes its local data but may not delete data already stored in iCloud.
- Analytics data is retained by our analytics providers in accordance with their retention policies.
- Referral records are kept while the referral program runs, and afterward only as long as needed to honor rewards and prevent abuse. You can ask us to delete your referral records by contacting us.
Your Choices
- Photo access: Change photo library access in iOS Settings at any time.
- Notifications: Disable notifications in the app or in iOS Settings.
- iCloud: Manage Snap Zap's access to iCloud in your device settings.
- Referral program: Sharing invites and using rewards is optional. You can ask us to delete your referral records at any time.
- App removal: Delete the app from your device at any time, which removes all locally stored data.
Children
Snap Zap is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Service Providers
Snap Zap uses PostHog for product analytics. PostHog processes limited usage data on our behalf under its Privacy Policy. The referral program runs on Cloudflare, which hosts our referral server and its database under its Privacy Policy. We may use additional service providers to operate and improve the app and will update this policy if our data practices materially change.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above.
